The 'Mawthooq' license is an official permit issued by the General Authority for Media Regulation in Saudi Arabia, mandatory for individuals who wish to engage in advertising activities on social media platforms such as Twitter, Instagram, YouTube, TikTok, Snapchat, and Facebook. This license aims to regulate the digital advertising sector, protect consumer rights, and ensure advertisers comply with legal and regulatory frameworks to promote transparency and accountability in the Saudi digital advertising market. Licensed individuals can advertise products or services while adhering to the Authority’s standards, including age ratings, credibility controls, and the immediate removal of any content deemed non-compliant upon request without objection.
Applicants must be Saudi nationals or residents at least 18 years old with no criminal record related to dishonesty or breach of trust. Additionally, the content published in the six months prior to the application must comply with the Authority’s regulations. All social media accounts intended for advertising must be registered and ownership proven to guarantee transparency and credibility. Strict penalties apply for violations, including advertising suspension and fines up to SAR 500,000.
